Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) held the Official Opening of SGFIN on 20 Apr 2023. In addition to the opening ceremony, the full-day event featured a Policy Panel session on “Navigating the Changing Landscapes of Sustainability and Climate-Related Policies” and an Industry Panel session on "Is Technology Complementary or Orthogonal to Sustainability?".

Official Launch
The Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) is officially launched by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Mr Lawrence Wong with NUS Board of Trustees Chairman, Fu Hua Hsieh, NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye and SGFIN Managing Director Professor Sumit Agarwal.
Policy Panel
Professor Sumit Agarwal, hosted a policy panel featuring, Pin Chuan Loh, Takuya Kamata, Lian Sim Yeo, Ashwin Balasubramanian on “Navigating the Changing Landscapes of Sustainability and Climate-Related Policies”.
Technology and Sustainability Panel
Professor Johan Sulaeman hosted a Technology and Sustainability panel featuring Bambang Brodjonegoro, Sherie Ng (Country Head, Google Cloud), Benjamin Soh (CEO, STACS) and David C.Y. Chen (CEO, Agrig8) on the topic of "Is Technology Complementary or Orthogonal to Sustainability?". The panelists provide an insightful discussion regarding the role of data, privacy, and responsibility to achieve more inclusive and sustainable ecosystems in various sectors including retail and agriculture in Southeast Asia.
Academic Paper Presentation
The SGFIN Official Opening also featured Academic Paper Presentations by Professor Tony Berrada from the University of Geneva on The Economics of Sustainability-Linked Bonds, the Fidelity Best Paper Award winner and Associate Professor Yupeng Lin from the National University of Singapore on Global Decarbonization Coordination and Resource Allocations in the Private Sector. The session is moderated by Associate Professor Zhang Weina.
MSc in Sustainability and Green Finance
New scholarships were also announced for Asia’s first MSc in Sustainability and Green Finance programme designed to enhance students’ impact on investment and business decisions through experiential learning and exposure to the financial and corporate sectors in the region. This MSc programme is offered by SGFIN in collaboration with NUS Business School.
